"I am a REALTOR® in the San Francisco Bay Area. I survived Caster Bean Poisoning at age 12 in 1964 by having my stomach pumped at the Grace New Haven Hospital. thank God i had a young doctor there that had done his thesis on Ricin Poisoning.
I ingested the beans from a neclace that a friend brought back from Jamacia as a gift to me which I later chewed on absent-mindedly while I studied. About 6 hours later I began vomiting and had diarrhea, but did not know why. As I became weaker and vomited bile into a trash can next to my bed I looked down and noticed the shells from the beans in the trash can. I was driven to New Haven from Southport, CT and was so weak by the time we got there I could not even walk into the emergency room. They pumped my stomach and miraculously saved me." |
