I try to use fairly local/regional-sourced non-cultivar species.
My wife (the true garden nut in the family ;) ) uses more traditional mix of non-natives and natives and cultivars and species, but has been a bigger fan of natives in her spaces as time goes by (she'll never give up her love of many non-natives though).
We just bought an acre property in Dec. '12 that was almost entirely lawn and large trees. We have begun the long process of eliminating lawn, planting a large (@ 1/4 acre) vegetable garden & a lot of fruit trees & bushes, as well as flower & native gardens." |
