"I live on the south shore of Lake Superior. The effect of the giant lake is very apparent on our plant zones. The edge of zone 2 is 30 miles south. Zone 3 is about 1 mile away, my neighbor across the street is zone 4a and my yard is zone 4b. I am 100 yards from Lake Superior. We have 2 to 4 feet of snow cover to protect our plants during the winter so we don't have to mulch.
