"I have been gardening most of my life, learning from my grandparents who were both born on farms. Over the years I have learned two very important things:
1) plants can't read. They don't know what a book says they're supposed to do and not do;
2) British gardening books have limited value in the United States. Our climates are significantly different.
Otherwise, I'm not much of a stickler for "rules." I plant what I like and whether or not anyone else likes it isn't my concern. "
