"I live south of Houston, am married, and have two Oriental Shorthairs (Teal'c & Moe). I teach English Comp. and Literature at a local community college. I suppose I'm a 21st century doer-of-all, master of . . . few? :) I won't say "none." Writing (academic/poetry/fiction) and art are a big part of my life. I keep many irons in the fire and multiple fires burning.
We bought our first home about a year ago. Fortunetly, the previous owner was fond of gardening with tropicals that thrive in our area. I've been slowly adding here and there, making mistakes and experiencing great success. I was finally forced to admit that growing corn in this yard just isn't possible when I had to add tomato cages to support the poor things. LoL Anyway, I like unusual plants, purple anything and ferns.
I'm an inveterate trash picker. Most Tuesday and Friday nights I'm roaming my neighborhood looking for materials. This started as a way to satisfy a constant need for new materials for mixed media assemblage projects, but to be honest it’s turned into a hobby of sorts. My idea of a good time also involves more traditional settings such as late nights at Denny's surrounded by good friends and being served by a crusty-mean waitress. I like ideas . . . I love words. Books like They Have a Word for It, Foreign Words and Phrases, and The Word Museum line my considerably stuffed bookshelves.
I'm a collector too: skeleton keys, seed pods, art, cat "stuff," canned corn from around the world, strange/interesting plants, old cigarette lighters, old doorknobs, books, fossils/minerals/meteorites, etc. My wonderful husband (who has the patience of a freakin' saint!) drew the line at tumbleweeds. It would have been a nice collection though. . ." |
