Petrea Species, Bluebird Vine, Queen's Wreath, Sandpaper Vine (Petrea volubilis)

Queen's wreath is a real traffic stopper when in full bloom. It's also called "tropical wisteria" although it has no fragrance and is nowhere as aggressive as wisteria.

Basically blooms in the Spring and then Fall.

Found at the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers.

Full of bloom, and more yet to open. May 6, 2007

Sandpaper Vine in St. Croix, this one doing well in Shade, and poor soil.


Southeast sun exposure allows petrea to bloom profusely.
