I feel as though this is a great choice instead of palm trees, for the top canopy.

Very errect form, tight clumping, and naturally brancheless at the base. All good features for an ornamental landscape specimen as well as for a privacy screen if planted in a row. Good cold hardiness for a tropical bamboo.
