Purple Loosestrife is regulated in most areas of North America, and banned in many areas.

It takes over wherever it is planted and kills out all other vegetation. It has taken over along Okanagan and Skaha Lake and killed off all other native vegetation. It has done the same with the Channel running through Penticton. VERY dangerous to native plantlife around waterways. Before you buy or plant this, check to make sure it is legal in your area or if it is wise. It appears that almost every entry under Purple Loosestrife from a Google search is a project dealing with how to get rid of it-all across the States as well. It took less than 10 years for the plantings on Penticton's Channel Parkway to change from varied foliage and flowers to a sea of purple. I would assume that all cultivars act in the same manner. I will take a photo this summer to add to this.
