The main claim to fame is its foliage colour which is a unique and striking dark midnight blue with a matt powdery leaf coating on new leaves (just like 'karfunkelstein' but blue pearl has better colour).
The problem with blue pearl is that it lacks vigour and is borderline susceptible to what i think are fungal diseases that often affect the lesser know dark sedums. Its never got mildew but its not unusual for me to have to pick off several dead dried-up leaves which have fallen off for no apparent reason despite it having good growing conditions. Together with blue pearl not being a fast grower for a sedum (only increasing about one-third every year), it means the plant is sluggish and slow to establish and bulk up.
I think blue pearl is worth buying to try out, but for a garden plant its best to stick with the more vigorous and problem free 'xenox'. Also 'KARFUNKELSTEIN' probably has the closest colour to blue pearl and is probably more reliable being an established mainstream sedum, although ive never grown it myself.
I have four plants of sun sparkler series sedum Blue Pearl and thought I'd add a comment since no one has yet.
The leaves are go...Read Morergeous, thick like brilliant stonecrop, but a deep burgundy color with purplish tones along the rib and edges. As I purchased them a little over a month ago, I can't comment on the flowers yet. However I can say, it doesn't seem to be picky about sun or water.
I have one growing with succulents where it receives full blazing sun, ~9 hours a day, and very little water in a cactus mix, it doing just fine. I have one in full sun (7 hours) in clay garden soil, regular watering, it's doing fine. I have two sitting in part shade in the pot it came in, its doing fine. The only thing I've noticed is that it seems to grow slowly though we are averaging highs in the 80's.
