Neomarica, Giant Apostles' Iris, Walking Iris 'Regina'

It says this plant is hardy to zone 10, but I have been growing it in Hilton head, zone 8b (really more like 9A, because it is an island)...Read More, for years now. The flowers are very pretty and ephemeral. I was working in the garden one day next to the plant, when a flower started opening in the morning, fully expanded, and then closed at the end of the day. I took several pictures. Like some of the night blooming cactuses, this is party worthy. It was quite a sight. The foliage is sword like, a pretty fresh green the rest of the year, they are evergreen. Mine receive morning sun.
I notice lot of people want this plant. They often sell them at Home Depot as 'foliage plant' without a name. I originally bought mine at a nursery, but the 'foliage plant' is actually Iris Regina. You would never know unless it were in bloom.

This plant gets too much sun in my yard and the leaves burn easily, probably better in a shadier or dappled location, but even so, it still blooms like a champ.

As with the other Walking Iris's I LOVE this plant. The giant variety seems to be hardier here in St. Augustine FL and I have enjoyed it...Read Mores blooms the past few weeks! It's easy and a gorgeous statement in front of my front porch railing.
