Entylia carinata - adult

This treehopper is on the underside of a New York Ironweed leaf (Vernonia noveboracensis). These bugs feed on plants in the Asteraceae. Nymphs are visible along the midrib of the leaf.

I wonder what the ant's involvement is in this scenario.

Found these on my sunflowers this year. The ants seem to be taking care of the hatchlings though.
