Diptera
Flies
This family consists of true flies, mosquitos, gnats, and midges. Many people mistake any insect with the word ?fly? in its name as an insect of this family, but that is not necessarily true, as a true fly has only one pair of flight wings. There are several different families of flies: biting flies, herbivores, scavengers, predators, and parasites. Diptera are effective breeders, which is why they occur in such large populations. The female will lay eggs as close to food as possible so the larvae can eat and grow as fast as possible.
