Plant NameCultivarTypeThumbnail
Agrimony
Agrimonia eupatoria

This is apparently extinct here in Israel. We need seeds from a nearby Mediterranean population, ideally.

Angelica Species
Angelica keiskei

Ashitaba is a tropical Angelica from Japan noted for edibility and medicinal properties. Reputed to contain Vitamin B12, which is an unusual feature in plants. Our vegan community garden members need it!
Seeds

Asclepias Species
Asclepias syriaca

For a friend of mine who collects that sort of things...
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Aspalathus Species
Aspalathus linearis

...Because there is no reason not to grow Rooibos in the Israeli community garden!

(Shirrush)
Cajanus Species
Cajanus cajan

The plants I have originate from Luzon in the Philippines. Like all tropical retards, they bloom in Winter and I'm not sure they'll make it. I'm looking for a reasonably cold-resitant and early-blooming variety, such as these developped by ICRISAT for i.e. the Ethiopian Highlands. Our community gardens would welcome the opportunity to grow a vegetable that is not available on the market.

Blitum Species
Chenopodium bonus-henricus

Still searching for the high-yield "Spinach" on behalf of the community gardens...
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Chaya
Cnidoscolus chayamansa

This species is needed as a "stealth vegetable" in the community gardens which are on public ground. What isn't recognized as a food plant cannot attract a passer-by's sticky fingers!
Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Collinsia heterophylla
It's beautiful, probably suitable to our climate, and I wants it, precioussss!
'Wild type' Seeds Image
(Shirrush)

Elsholtzia ciliata
I had this species on my "have" list, but my early 2014 seeds have failed to germinate!
Thus, I need fresh seeds because this plant is not only gorgeous, it tastes good and it has unique medicinal properties!
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Gerbera aurantiaca
KZN wild accessions only! What we want is the real thing, as created by G_d/ Evolution!
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Gerbera jamesonii
Northern Province/ Kruger wild accessions only! What we want is the real thing, G_d's/ Evolution's own Gerbera!
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Devil's Claw
Harpagophytum procumbens

This menacing Sesame-family creeper would be a welcome addition to any water-thrifty Israeli flower bed.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Ipomopsis Species
Ipomopsis rubra

This species is apparently suitable for Israel's soil and climate, and I wants it!
'Red!' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Turkish Mint
Lagochilus inebrians

Not sure this will grow in our region. I'll have interesting Hermon plants, which I can collect but do not dare to attempt growing, to trade for this Central Asian species.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Monarda didyma
Seeds collected from Southern populations (FLA, GA, SC...) would be most appreciated.
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Monarda fistulosa
Seeds from Southern wild/ spontaneous populations are needed. Growing Beebalm in Israel has not been entirely successful so far: heat resistance required!
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Ocimum Species
Ocimum kilimandscharicum

Also called Kapoor Tulsi. This African camphor-scented Basil is hard to find, whereas its unfertile hybrid with O. basilicum is not. What I want is the real thing, not the ornamental "Dark Opal/ Blue mountain" hybrid cultivar that's everywhere!
Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Ocimum lamiifolium
This shrubby Labiate goes by the Amharic name of Dama Kesse. It is native to East Africa, where it is used medicinally for its anti-inflammatory properties. Besides that, it is gorgeous, and I wants it, precioussss!
'Wild Type' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Ocimum Species
Ocimum selloi

This Brazilian species is required as an addition to our growing Ocimum collection.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Orthosiphon Species
Orthosiphon aristatus

This plant should do well in my country. A pity I can't find it locally!
'Any' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Jicama
Pachyrhizus erosus

Jícama would be very useful in our community gardens as most of these cannot be safeguarded from the random larcenies of passers-by. "Stealth crops", i.e., such that cannot readily be identified as vegetables, should be the way to go.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Papaver Species
Papaver bracteatum
'Any' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Guinea Henweed
Petiveria alliacea

People in my group recently got interested in this plant. I'd like to trade for some seeds please. I'd prefer material from a SE-US population as we do have a Winter here!
'Northern, not equatorial' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Petromarula Species
Petromarula pinnata

Who wants to trade this for some Michauxia campanuloides seeds?
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Tepary Beans
Phaseolus acutifolius

A non-climbing, shrubby, high-yielding variety of Tepary Bean with a short, drought-resistant life cycle is required.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Phaseolus Species
Phaseolus coccineus

Any high-yielding variety that also forms acceptable tubers would be welcome.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Plectranthus edulis
The Ethiopian Potato is required as a "stealth vegetable" for our community gardens which are located in public areas.
'Any' Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Plectranthus esculentus
The Livingstone Potato is required as a "stealth vegetable" for our community gardens which are located in public areas.

'Any' Seeds
(PlantFiles)

Plectranthus rotundifolius
The Coleus Potato is required as a "stealth vegetable" for our community gardens which are located in public areas.

'Any' Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Patchouli
Pogostemon cablin

I see no reason why Patchouli should not be grown in Israel...
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Smallanthus Species
Polymnia sonchifolia

Yacón (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is the ultimate "stealth crop" for community gardens. It is usually multiplied from tubers, but these cannot be air-mailed overseas. Anyone got viable seeds?
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Salvia Species
Salvia apiana

This species is required to complete our community garden's growing collection of Sages. Seeds collected from the wild would be preferred, if they come from a fragrant population.
'Wild Type' Seeds Image
(Shirrush)
Snake Gourd
Trichosanthes cucumerina

This vegetable has proven to be a resounding success in my area. To be on the safe side though, additional varieties would be nice to have.
Seeds
(PlantFiles)
Damiana
Turnera diffusa

This one is really hard to get. I bought some dried material at the local nature shop, and I found about 10 seeds in it, none of which germinated! Bummer!
