Hedychium Species Hedychium coronarium Butterfly Ginger - Grows to 6', fragrant white flowers, so white they seem to glow in half light. Can get beaten down by a heavy rain and will look a little slovenly toward end season as they start dying back. They like water. I planted them on high spots in our wetlands with good sun, they took hold easily and spread. They do well in the garden beds too. Here in zone 8b they die late fall then come back the next spring. I don't do anything for them, a workfree plant. Sometimes I use the brown stalks as mulch in the beds or just let them mulch where they fall. | Roots, Tubers and Bulbs | (PlantFiles) |
