A very striking Alstroemeria.

It blooms on and off for months on end in our garden.

Alstroemeria
Alstroemeria

I saw this Alstroemeria growing in front of someone's house and had to have it. I knocked on the door and the homeowner was kind enough to let me take some divisions.

I haven't been able to identify it so I have given it the name, Toffee.
Although close-up the flowers have multiple colors from a distance the immediate color one sees is a pastel toffee colors -- hence the name.

Michaelmas Daisy
Aster x frikartii

From a small division this plant has increased and flourished in my garden.
It blooms from late Summer until almost Winter here in my Southern California climate.
The lavender-blue color just glows on this delightful Fall-blooming perennial.
'Monch' Cuttings Image
(suguy)
Orchid
Bletilla striata

I've long admired this little terrestrial orchid.
Blooms reliably every Spring.

Just this past January I found I could easily make divisions of it -- so now I have some to share.

I also grow the white one (alba).

Cotula Species
Cotula hispida

Easy trailing plant. Very good filler at edge of larger plantings.

Having grown this Cotula in a couple of large pots this past year they are now quite striking as they cascade down beautifully.

(suguy)
Delosperma Species
Delosperma echinatum

I originally saw this plant at someone's home in the San Fernando Valley.
It was in a small pot and though it looked fairly neglected the plant seemed to be thriving anyway.

I was given a few cuttings and they rooted well.
I've continued to propagate this Delosperma and it is a super easy plant to both grow and increase.

Species Orchid
Epidendrum radicans

A deep lavender selection found in Santa Barbara, Ca.

Euphorbia
Euphorbia

I've grown this eye-catching Crown-of-Thorns for about a year now.
The color is a blend of gold and yellow with traces of pink.

It looks to be an introduction by one of the large mass production plant companies for the nursery trade mainly in Florida and the South.

So far it is an excellent COT with a compact habit and non-stop bloom habit.

Euphorbia
Euphorbia milii

E. 'Jerry's Choice' is a non-stop blooming machine.
Growing very compact and full it looks wonderful in a medium sized container out in full sun.

Euphorbia
Euphorbia milii

E. milli 'Primrose Yellow' was a straggly ugly duckling when I found it in a neglected state at a nursery I frequent.
With some tlc and time it has grown into a lovely, full plant.
Looks best with some shade and protection from sun and wind -- at least in my hot, dry, sometimes windy area.

I have excellent success in rooting Crown of Thorns.
They start out slow but eventually take off.

Fuchsia
Fuchsia triphylla

This Fuchsia is a tried and true performer in the shade gardens I design and build.
I can't overstate its qualities: great foliage, health, and longevity.

Its the best Fuchsia I have found that can hold up well in the landscape.
'Firecracker' Plants

Geranium
Geranium x cantabrigiense

G. 'Biokovo' is a very vigorous geranium that makes a beautiful carpet of lush foliage even out of bloom.
Starting in January (at least for us here in SoCal) it is covered with the faintest white pink blooms -- the color of pearls.
'Biokovo' Plants

Geranium
Geranium x oxonianum

A high quality garden plant.
This color combines beautifully and the foliage is outstanding even without any blooms.
'Claridge Druce' Cuttings

Outstanding garden plant.
Blooms for months on end.
Just shear back a couple times a year to keep in bounds.

Very easy and rewarding.
Just gets better each year.
'Cooky' Roots, Tubers and Bulbs Image
(suguy)
Haemanthus Species
Haemanthus albiflos

This is a handsome and very striking plant.
It is nearly care-free growing in a pot on my patio.
It holds its wide, green strap-like leaves all year round with minimal watering and feeding.
Now in November it has burst into bloom.
Roots, Tubers and Bulbs
(PlantFiles)
Ipheion Species
Ipheion uniflorum

Near the top of my all-time favorite bulbs.
Blooms totally reliably early every Spring.
Can't grow enough of these.

Iresine
Iresine herbstii

This plant sort of sneaked up on me.
Now I have worked with plants professionally for over twenty-five years as a landscape designer.
So how come I never knew about Iresine?

Oh well, its nice to discover new plants -- especially this one.

I have planted this variegated form of Iresine in several projects this past year and they have performed beautifully.
The structure of the plant, its vivid colors and overall sturdiness make it a total winner.
And every plant we put in has come through their first winter just fine.

For a bold accent plant in a part shade site this one is hard to beat.

I think it would be sensational in a large container as well.
'Aureoreticulata' Plants Image
(suguy)
Kalanchoe Species
Kalanchoe marmorata

This Kalanchoe grows well for me.
It gets quite big -- over 3' tall foliage and the flower stalks have reached 4 1/2' high in its first season.

The big clusters of starry white flowers are quite stunning in my opinion.

Goldfish Plant
Nematanthus wettsteinii

I never expected this subtropical plant to be so sturdy and hardy.

Beautiful foliage, cute flowers and it looks just fine all year.
Plants, Cuttings Image
(suguy)
Oscularia Species
Oscularia deltoides

Super easy to grow and the silver foliage alone is outstanding.

Protect from hard frosts.
Cuttings
(PlantFiles)
Crassothonna Species
Othonna capensis

Delightful little iceplant.
Unlike many iceplants, however, this one blooms nearly all the time.
The foliage color is a soft gray-green that blends well with other plants.

Oxalis Species
Oxalis bowiei

A robust Oxalis with large, succulent leaves that are beautiful in their own right.

A Winter bloomer and likes cooler, somewhat protected conditions in general.
Slow to start but eventually can spread like many of its other kin.

I grow it in containers and it has a habit of showing up in other pots here and there -- but doesn't become a nuisance.
Plants
(PlantFiles)
Oxalis
Oxalis crassipes

This is the most outstanding Oxalis I grow.
I prefer to grow it in a pot (having moved it up twice to accomodate its growth).
It has been blooming for over six months straight with just a slight lull in mid-Summer.

I have been able to divide it -- so I'll have some to share.

(PlantFiles)
Oxalis Species
Oxalis crassipes

My very favorite Oxalis for planting out. It grows effortlessly in the garden and doesn't become a pest. Divides very easily and so I always have lots to give away or trade. Flowers on and off for months -- longer than any other Oxalis.
'Rosea' Roots, Tubers and Bulbs Image
(suguy)
Plectranthus
Plectranthus

An exceptionally consistent Plectranthus.
It sits in a large pot on the patio -- getting dappled light all year.
I have to chop it back once a year and it comes roaring back.
Blooms on and off nearly twelve months.
'Blue Yonder' Plants
(PlantFiles)
Plectranthus Species
Plectranthus ciliatus

Not only one of the easiest Plectranthus to grow but an excellent garden plant.
Great color, form and health.
Plants Image
(suguy)
Plectranthus Species
Plectranthus zuluensis

I saw big groupings of this plant at a local arboretum and took some cuttings since the plants were due to get their winter cutback.

They have all rooted and since Plectranthus grow with lightning speed I should have my own cutting stock by summer (2012).

A wonderful garden/landscape plant for shade.
Plants
(PlantFiles)
Rhodanthemum Species
Rhodanthemum hosmariense

This plant deserves wider use -- especially in rock gardens and hot, dry conditions.

Hybrid Tea Rose
Rosa

This amazingly colored rose is astonishingly not in commerce!
I can't imagine a rose garden without it.
Just stunning.

And fragrant to boot.

This HT does very well on its own roots.
'Abracadabra' Plants Image
(suguy)
Miniature Rose
Rosa

This vivid pink mini rose deserves wider use.
The flowers come in small and large clusters over a long season.
A very healthy plant that just gets better each year.

Miniature Rose
Rosa

This miniature rose is a very prolific producer of large clusters of color over a long season.
The plant is super healthy and stays compact.
'Alfie' Plants Image
(suguy)
Mini-Flora
Rosa

This diminuitive mini rose is a treasure to grow.
With blooms like small Dogwood blossoms it puts on a show of glowing pink in Spring and again in Fall.

Never growing more than a foot high it shows up best in a raised bed or container.
'Astra' Plants
(PlantFiles)
Mini-Flora Rose
Rosa

This is a "sleeper" of a rose. Perhaps better in warmer climates--I'm not sure. But it grows very vigorously. And by it's 3rd season it has enormous clusters of pastel apricot blooms. Great in arrangements.
'Autumn Splendor' Cuttings

Miniature
Rosa

Brass Ring is an upright, bushy miniature with smallish orange-blend blooms that are very unsophisticated.

I need to get a photo of it.
Probably will have to wait until next Spring.
'Brass Ring' Plants Image
(suguy)
Miniature Climbing Rose
Rosa

This wonderful mini-climber is so very good I'm surprised it isn't planted far more often -- it is so superior to many of the large-flowered climbers.

Easy to grow, train and enjoy.
'Candy Cane' Plants

Miniature Rose
Rosa

Denver's Dream is a spectacular mini rose.
The colors and structure of the plant are both outstanding.
'Denver's Dream' Plants Image

Mini-Flora

Graduation Day is as close to a miniature Austin rose that I have found.
The large-scale blooms are very double and of the softest apricot color.
A bush in full bloom is quite the sight.
