Crinum
When we moved here 7 years ago a neighbor, also from New England!, gave us some “seeds” that were ridiculously large! They look more like bulbs and will readily self-root if left on the ground here in Zone 10a. But the parent plant was beautiful! And for landscaping purposes it was a dream! It took a couple years for the first 2 to grow to their mature size of roughly 4’ high x 6’wide with flower stalks about 5’ high, but it was worth the wait when those first blooms appeared! An entire “head” of terminal, long –petaled, almost spidery white blooms that last easily a week or more!

I have a red variety! Stunning! I bought this plant in full bloom, possibly10’ long all wrapped around itself on a very weak support about 3’ high, from a local grocery store; of course it died down to almost nothing very quickly, poor thing. I kept up the care, and it’s recovered nicely! There are even a few small blooms this year! It’s still in its original pot, but after reading the comments about how invasive it can be, and seems EVERYthing becomes invasive and huge here in SW FL!, after these few blooms have passed I will be putting it in a new POT with fresh dirt! I will have to watch it closely as many of my other potted plants have literally rooted right out through the bottom holes.
