Carica papaya
This is a rare local variety. It is very large, can be anywhere from 6 inches up to almost a foot long, a "nipple" at the blossom end, with coral colored, exceptionally sweet and juicy flesh. Some of these "watermelon" types are not very sweet, more like vegetables. This is the best of it's type that I have found. I grew it twenty years ago, lost the seed, recently found a fruit in a local natural foods store, and grew out the seeds. Have not seen it in stores since. I will grow no other papaya now. One large one could feed four people.
