Allium
Allium sativum

Local trades only please. Rocambole Hardneck garlic, possibly a Polish strain. Slight purple tinge to skin and a smoky flavored unique taste. Grows great in upstate NY in rich soil. Fun for kids to watch grow as the stalk unfurls like a snake. Scapes are a gourmet treat if you remove them for bigger bulbs. Just saute in olive oil with a pinch of sea salt and sugar.

Helianthus Species
helianthus tuberosus

Local trades only please. Jerusalem artichokes which grow up to 12' with nice yellow October flowers in upstate NY. Large tubers up to baseball size which I can dig in spring, but need to be replanted right away,, or fresh tubers in autumn for storage, fresh eating, or replanting. Will take over an area with good soil, and is a heavy feeder. Probably should be naturalized in a field. Considered invasive in Canada. Used by native
Americans for centuries, and the vegetation can be used for animal fodder.
A couple tubers will turn into 50 in a couple years, so it has cash crop potential.
