| Hibiscus Species Hibiscus mutabilis I have one from a cutting that I rooted in water over last winter, and planted in a pot this spring. Repotted it several times, and need to prepare a spot to plant it in the ground. A few tips for cuttings: Root cuttings in distilled water When ready to plant in soil, start in a container (at least 1 gal). Put a saucer under and keep soil wet for a few days so the water roots can acclimate to being in soil. Let gradually dry out and water when leaves wilt and top 1"-2" of soil feels dr dry.
