Cercis
Cercis canadensis var. texensis

These redbud are more dramatic than our eastern Redbuds. They are a rich fuschia and have shiny leaves. I scattered hundreds of seeds over our property last year and now I will watch for little ones. Some of my seedlings of the easterns are
up and growing.

English Rose
Rosa

The second year these were planted (following a drought the previous year)......they bloomed liked mad for about a month. The plants actually grow up to 6 feet tall, but were whacked back in late winter. By spring the plants were chest high and loading up with amazingly fragrant blooms. I have read that the long tall (six foot stems) can be pegged and they will bloom all along the arching stem. Still watching them to see what the rest of the summer holds for rebloom potential. Experimenting with dramatic shearing back, following spring bloom......to see if that will encourage rebloom. Would really enjoy seeing these bloom again. Very thorny; but they make up for that negative with an intoxicating fragrance.

China Rose
Rosa

I received a root sprout of this rose from a friend after seeing it in bloom by her mailbox. It belonged to her mother. This rose is an heirloom type. It can be pruned to a shrub or let it become a climber.
Within three years of planting the root sprout, it has grown to 4 feet by 7 feet and this spring displayed hundreds of blooms. It has an old rose
fragrance and is not bothered at all by black spot.
I did pinch the tips last summer and it became
very full. All those stems then were covered with
blooms this spring.

I am guessing this rose is "Old Blush". The other
common name for it; is "Parson's Pink".

The image was taken in spring of 2008. (I have it
on a trellis and you can't even see the trellis).
