Persicaria tinctoria

For indigo dyers. I have dried and then composted dried leaf material. Reduced composted material by chemical means (lye and thiox). Worked well in vat. Colored cotton, wool, silk and linen. Short growing season here. Too cold to compost at end of growing season so I have to dry harvested leaf and wait until the next growing season to compost. Figure on three years to cloth in this area...one growing season to grow, next to compost (100 days) and next summer to put into vat. I could accomplish this in two years if I lived in an area with a longer warm season. Using a fresh bath is possible during the growing season. I have been working hard to harvest seed so I haven't cut it midsummer to use fresh. I have seed this year!
