While we were house hunting in 05/06 we saw some at a home we looked at. The man told us what they were & we ate some fruit then kept the seeds to start our own bushes. Started the seeds at our Miami apartment & before we bought our home in Tamarac, they had started growing.
The Surinam Cherry bush can grow 10-12' high, becoming a thin bush but takes well to trimming after fruiting to promote a thicker growth. The delicious fresh fruit tastes somewhat like a strawberry/cherry, it is ribbed with a very thin dark yellow to reddish color skin. They hang in clusters by small thin stems & have a large pit, much like any cherry. Can be eaten fresh or made into jelly.
Specimen plant overwinters well in W window of sunroom in AR.

Hatiora Species
Hatiora salicornioides

Around 1980 my sister Judy gave me a start of this very hearty cactus. It takes a lot of abuse such as the Sansevieria, not needing very much water & will take full sun to full shade. A sunny window will suffice if indooers. It will shower lovely little yellow tubular flowers at the end of new stems, a couple times a year if it's happy. Seeds for new plants? I've never found them but rather find that the plant develops small aerial roots along the sections of stems. It's very easy to cut off (or bend) any length of the plant and lay the stem in moistened, sandy soil to allow roots to start at each section where they touch. This makes a nice beginner's plant for Bonsai.

Albuca Species
Ornithogalum longibracteatum

Got my first "onion" in summer of 1975 from an old gardener I met at a garage sale in Harrisonville, MO. VERY easy to get started once an onion is "born" by being exposed by an outer layer of the skin drying up. I periodically let my plant go dry to slough off a layer of the skin to expose the babies to harvest & plant.
