My Astilbe amaze me in that 5 of 7 plants are up well over a foot and 2 others are just breaking ground.Almost the same light etc?

Several different varieties,perhaps that is the reason.
I've got a border of nine or ten astilbe "Sprite", and it annoys me greatly that one of them is lagging behind the others, so it's not going to bloom at the same time. No idea why that would happen.
I had the same thing happen to some Hostas. They were all planted 5 years ago. Three years ago one of them was about half the size of the other four. Every year "stumpy" has i call it is smaller then the rest. They are all planted in a row 3 feet apart.
