Will creeping fig destroy my house?

Fort Lauderdale, FL

Hi - I'm looking for advice on whether or not it's safe to plant creeping fig next to my house. We have a cement block home and it seems hard to imagine that a fig vine could do any structural damage. I love the look and am hoping it will cool my house down. anyone have advice on whether or not it can damage the home? thanks!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

my neighbor has it growing on the brick and when it's trimmed, it is absolutely beautiful. It costs her $200 each time (about every 60 days) the landscape crew comes to trim it. She has a two story home. I have seen it grown w/o trimming and after a few years it looks unkempt and sort of lumpy. Also, if you were to remove it, your bricks would be discolored and it would certainly be a job to kill/remove it. It is a beautiful, classical look, but unless you're 10000% sure your status quo isn't going to change, this could be something of a headache if you needed to remove.

Then again, if you sell the house, then it becomes somebody else's problem, lol
