I don't know how you all feel about purchasing clems from "big box" stores, but I saw a huge new shipment of "Dr. Ruppel" clems at Lowe's this afternoon. They were in gallon-sized containers, and I think they were each around $11.

that is where mine came from a couple of years ago..........
If you can get a well rooted clematis that you want from a big box store, I say get it.
If it's something I want and don't have, I'll be there in there within the next day or two looking for the same.

just check and see if it is well rooted. if not, buy it anyway and hold it till you plant it out perhaps.
it is still probably bigger than a liner, but lowes has a habit of mis labeling clems, but no harm done with that either. we all have our little ID surprises
maybe i can go see if they have the minseelik i though ti was buying last year that turned out to be another pink champagne.
will check it out.
