Coconut Limes didn't come back this year ...

Clarksville, MD

I planted 3 Coconut Lime plants last fall, only one came back ... is this normal?

It's not normal to me unless they were planted in the fall or in pots. 100 % of mine returned in the ground, but nothing surprises me anymore. Does the one that came back look good? I rooted one last summer and it's blooming now before the parent plant. I just took a basal division of it.

They were planted with the more common purple variety, in the ground, early September. The one that appears to be trying to make a go at it is about 6 inches high, the purple ones are over two feet tall.

I think they are better if planted in the spring, but that is a bad percentage as far as return goes.

Pink Double Delight seems to be a much better plant, but they look so good together.
