Has anyone any experience with the long term effects of strong winds on redbuds? Two were recently added to our apartment complex property, in an area between buildings that is a real wind tunnel. The leaves have several tears and brown edges now. Will the tree acclimate? Or should we consider moving them to a less windy spot? I had read that redbuds were wind-tolerant. Any thoughts?
thanks
wind effects on redbud trees
I'm surprised no one jumped in on this...sorry but I don't know either...maybe check on Trees Shrubs and conifers forum???
That's beautiful Bev, I'd hate to lose it. You could try cabling it.
Just checking out some old posts that I missed before. So busy during the summer there's not much time for checking on new threads. That's a gorgeous red bud, Bev. I sure hope you don't lose it.

I don't recall ever seeing this thread. I had a bad wind incident this year with my Forest Pansy. Large branch was split during a big rain/wind storm.
Oh, that's a shame, Victor! I have one red bud in a windy spot, and it seems to do just fine there.

I taped it up and the branch has survived - so far. That happened in June.
Here's hoping they'll continue to survive!

Thanks!
Nice, Bev! I have 4 of them myself. They sure are nice trees.
