Found this guy when we moved a whiskey barrel planter. Any Idea what it is? We are in the Adirondacks in upstate NY

Here's my guess after Googling NY Salamanders...Northern Redback Salamander (Plethodon c. cinereus)

Definitely northern redback. We have them living under rocks in our garden. They do a nice job of eating ants and being pleasant garden buddies

What a beautiful animal. :)

Salamanders can be found occasionally here in the PNW too. I was cultivating a new area in my garden in early spring and unearthed one of these little creatures. That was the end of cultivating that area. It is one of the last uncultivated areas in my yard and so it shall remain.
