Could anyone tell me the name of the common shrub that about everyone has in their yard early spring. Its bush form has red bloom and really wicked thorns. It must be an old plant because all the of abandon farms have one it seems and my mother said my grandmother had a huge one in her yard.
identify this plant?
Hi, Lisa - welcome! :) Is it a rose with lots of little flowers with single blooms?
Sounds like flowering quince. They sure do have the thorns.
Thank you both for trying to help me and the welcome. Yes, gemini_sage, it is a flowering quince, I looked it up in my flower book. Not a very good identification book though, since you have to know the name of the plant to look it up. Ha
Happy gardening!!!

When you go to buy your lily, take me with you - that's a bargain! ;)
