how do tell the difference?
I bought some from a friend, but she didn't know what they were. I tried looking in plant files, but they look the same to me...?
difference between louisianna and siberian?
Siberians would normally have more slender leaves than the LAs. Siberian leaves are slender and upright.
If you can see the rhizomes, LAs have yellowish, larger rhizomes. Sibs have very small thizomes.
Another way to tell the difference is to hold the leaf up so the light is behind it. On a LA leaf you will see what looks like criss crossing, that's individual water cells. It's a common feature of water irises, but not sibs.
Can you post a picture? Are they in bloom?
yes I get a pic tomarrow or something and post that.
Pick a leaf in the morning and hold it up to the light and see if you can see lines across it?
We'll figure it out.
Siberian Did she give you a name?
That ID was for the first picture.
oh, I think we cross posted!
well, I got three altogether, I don't know what any of them are. She didn't know either. This woman must be in her mid 70's. Plants all kinds of things, and then has no idea what they are or where she put them. Pays good money for some of them too. figure that!
I really like the first one but they are all three pretty.
All three siberian. The last one appears to be an older one. I like the coloration.
thank you so much for the id!
