Tea Bags? Mold in kitchen scrap container.

Newport, RI(Zone 6a)

I drink a lot of tea and was wondering if I can use tea bags,(minus the string and staple), in composting. Also I have been saving my kitchen scraps in a large coffee can and it has been getting some mold on it. Can I still use it? Any suggestions would be so helpful.

Nothing going on there of any concern including the staple that will rust away in no time. The string and tag are good to go to. As for the mold.....just dump it more frequently.

Mold is one of the many critters that break down organic matter and make compost. If you drink a lot of black tea it can be fairly acidic so add a little baking soda to balance the pH. Same goes for citrus and other sour fruits.

DH and aides make me tea all the time. Some of them compost it - some of them won't. Grrrr.
