My wife was bargin hunting at the dollar store a couple weeks back and saw bags of potting soil for 1.00 each and bought me several.Being a thrifty yankee I tried it even though the texture was very suspicious. The poor plants almost died as it is almost pure sand.Put the rest in my compost pile. The moral of the tale is you get what you pay for.

I've done that before.
I figured out that it made a good extender for my usual potting mix, once I mixed the stuff I bought with an equal amount of peat.
I don't buy that stuff anymore. at the Christmas tree shop the "Potting soil" has huge chunks of charcoal and wood in it....

Gamekeeper - I discovered in Fla. that the sandy soil was best used to put on top of the seeds I planted. The seeds germinated very quickly.
