red Ixora in zone 8a?

Sumter, SC

I bought a red Ixora plant today, assuming it was cold hardy in zone 8a. According to DG plantfile info, it is only cold hardy to zone 9a. Are there any midlands gardeners growing Ixora?

Hi, Donna:
I'm not in the midlands but I am technically in zone 8a. Last spring I planted 3 Ixora. In fall, I left one in ground and potted up the other two and brought them in.

The one that was left out, appears to be d-e-a-d, though, I supposed it may be just taking it's time.

My instinct is nope, not hardy in 8a, although someone else may have had a different experience.

I am in a protected zone 8b and I planted 2 last fall - both died over the winter.

Update: The one I had left in-ground over the winter is alive! Granted, it's only about 3" high foliage at the moment, but it did survive. Whether it will get to blooming size by the end of the summer is another question.

Meanwhile, those that I had kept indoors over the winter are just about to bloom.
