Has anyone ever tried to train a rose into a tree? I would like a tree rose, but don't want to spend the money on one. Any suggestions?

I am likely going to stick my big foot in my mouth here, but here goes...
I did it twice....first time with a hybrid Tea that was grafted on other rootstock...Ummmmm...didn't work....
Second time, I bought a climber with a really great looking center cane on its own rootstock...Pruned off everything else...It took me 2 years of pain, agony, worry etc., but it finally got up tall enough with me picking off everything else but the very top...and keeping the cane tipped in the center to stimulate side growth...It worked, but I would never do it again...just not worth the agony or the work...IMHO
