How do you grow them? Have I missed that thread???

Jenison, MI(Zone 6b)

I just had someone dive me 20+ cannas and I have no idea what they look like or how to grow them. I am in zone 5. Would someone please help? I know I have to wait till after last frost date...but planting depth etc., unsure....thanks!

Your very lucky, you are going to love them, check out the sticky at the top of this page, you'll find all the info you need to grow these beauties.

Honestly, there's very little to do with cannas, aside from putting them in the ground. In zone 5, you "should" lift them at the end of the year, although I know people in Ohio who mulch them heavily every year and just let them be.

Thanks for the responses ladies. Its going to be interesting finding out what I have.

hmmm - replanting means canna wont bloom until next season??
didnt know that.

i do believe mine bloomed anyway down here in 7b.

but these were the Bengal Tiger:
lush yellow and green stripe leaves with large neon orange blossoms!
a hardy variety for sure!

and yes - a lot of direct sun and they are happy!

In NC you should be fine and not have to dig them up if you have them deep enough and mulched.
