Advice for making obelisks or tuteurs for clematis?

One of my books said clematis will twine around things which are 3/4 inch diameter, or smaller. . .

Also, I am not sure what height would be correct for clematis.

If anyone has made obelisks or tuteurs for clematis, and can show photos and/or give info of what supplies they used, my husband and I would be much obliged!
