I am asking this on part of my sister. She asked me because she thought I had studied trees, I only studied tree id. She just planted two weeping willow trees from the same place. They are in the same part of the yard and both had potting mix put into the planting hole. Pretty much both were planted exactly the same. One is dong well and has new growth and the other, the top is dying. The rest of it is green and looks good but the top has leaves are are turning brown and dying. I thought maybe some damage to the top. I don't know, can she cut the top off and the rest still be okay? Thank you in advance for any input. :)
Cause of death?
If the top is dying, it may be "Birch Borer".
So I'm guessing that cutting the top off wouldn't help that?
See if this has suggestions: http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG1417.html
