One of my favourite sights in Spring is the appearance of the bluebell in local woodlands. Old churchyards are a wonderful place to see wildflowers (and wonderful gravestones too!).
Bluebell time!
Those are different 'bluebells' than I grew up with - in Illinois, our woods are full of Mertensia aka virginia bluebells - a beautiful sight, no matter what.
Yes this is a classic case for using the correct Latin names for plants, one girl's Hyacintha is another girl's Mertensia :)
Well I just had to show what our Texas Bluebells look like.

Frostweed, those are tall prairie gentian aka Eustoma, right?
Yes Eustoma exaltatum ssp. russellianum, if we go by one of their names, aren't they gorgeous?
They are just beautiful - I saw them in a field when I was visiting in Austin, Tx. I tried to dig one, but had no luck. Do you have any plants available for trade?
I love virginia bluebells. I have a few flowering in my shade garden right now. I put about 50 bare roots into my woods about a month ago. Hopefully next spring I have a full patch to share some pictures of with you all.
