Black Skimmer (Rynchops niger)
Looks like somebody got to one of the eggs. Do you plan to watch the development? If so please keep posting pics. We'd love to see life's beginnings.
That's just a large patch of camouflage blotching, to imitate a pebble . . . doesn't work so well on a pure sand beach!
