baby yarn socks

In passing, I heard someone mention making socks from baby yarn. Has anyone tried this? The reason I would like to do this is due to the fact I can never find solid colors. My chief source of sock yarn is at Hobby Lobby. They never have solid colors but have wonderful varigated that forms stripes and patterns.
