Potato Plants and Critters Eating Them

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Any of you have experience with potato plants being eaten by deer, rabbits, woodchucks, etc? I'm wondering if I need to fence them or not.

I've also read that you shouldn't plant them near tomatoes, cukes, and squashes - any comments here?

I thought that the leaves of potato plants were poison!

Our garden is fenced so I can't tell you if anything eats the potato plants but last year my husband's potato patch was nearly wiped out by mice. . . they ate the potatoes. Anybody got any advice on keeping the out other than D-Con?

Mice? Or moles? I dont see mice digging holes in the dirt.

Maybe voles? they look like mice but with shorter tails and pointer noses and dig in the dirt.
