Last spring I purchased a 6 pack of plants that had the tag " Nierembergia hybrid" Summer Splash-Patio White; the tag said it was an annual, It grew very little last year and may have had 12 blossoms total on the plants. Since it was an annual I just noted not to waste money on it again. Well, surprise of surprises, this spring I discover it is coming back as a woody stemmed plant. What is it and will it survive for years or just disappear over time?
Nierembergia - what is this?
Gessie,
Nierembergia is a tropical perennial, a cool tropical plant. It doesn't really like the heat of summer. It is a decidous perennial in places that get frost (but the ground doesn't freeze) and would benefit from a winter mulch.
I have several light blue flowered plants- in the ground and in containers. They bloom spring to early summer and then a few more flowers summer thru fall. They grow best in cool weather (60-75).
