I live in zone 7 (NC) and want to grow coral bell azalea in my front yard which is a full sun spot. Do you think it can survive and bloom well? THanks for your suggestion!

Can Coral Bell Azealea survive in full sun?
That spot may get too much sun, Max. The American Rhododendron Society Chapter for the Middle Atlantic States (based in Virginia) recommends some afternoon shade to protect from the hot summer sun. To quote, "Rhododendrons and azaleas are healthiest in light shade, especially under oaks and pines with the lower branches trimmed up. Do not choose a location near maples, elms, ashes or other trees with shallow competitive root systems. Some varieties of azaleas and rhododendrons may survive in full sun, but avoid planting them in a south, southwest or west exposure, especially if heat and light are reflected on the plants from a nearby building. In dense shade the plants tend to grow spindly and do not bloom profusely. Protection from winter's cold drying winds is also desirable."
