Canada geese (ugh!)

Delaware, OH

Has anyone found a way to get rid of Canada geese? I have 2 in my pond that I believe are eating shoots of water lilies. Not to mention that they are very messy.

It's illegal to kill them outside of the hunting season.
But you can harrass them all you want.
Firecrackers work well, as do airhorns, as do dogs.

Be careful around them though and carry a big stick w/ you.
They will attack if threatened.
Then it's self defense...lol!

And I have some great recipes.
If they have a nest.... break the eggs..... and keep breaking them.

Some sucess reported w/ this.

People from the ODNR shake Canada goose eggs, which kills the embryo; the pair will then sit a nest of dud eggs for a whole season. At least that way they won't multiply. You have to have a permit to shake their eggs, though. But, like Ric says, your best bet is harassing them. If you let a pair stay, you will soon have fifty. No joke.
