Spoon Gourd variety question

Collegedale, TN

Hello;

I recently purchased some seeds for spoon gourds and I purchased 2 different types (spoon gourd and ornamental spoon gourd.) Do you know if there really are 2 different types of spoon gourd out there? I am looking for a spoon gourd that will hold up enough to dry and craft. The company I purchased the seeds from showed a picture of a crafted spoon gourd for the spoon gourd seeds and a picture of a green and yellow gourd for the ornamental spoon gourd seeds. Is there really a difference between the two? Thanks so much for your help!

I can't answer for sure...but some years ago I bought some of the decorative gourds and let them dry...then painted them back to the original (sorta) colors...here is a link to them...and both types are there. Jo

I will see if I have any left. Will the inspectors let them come through the mail? Jo

Here is a link for seeds that should grow true to type, so they say.

When growing gourds I recommend only using seeds that are hand pollinated so you will get the type of gourds you want after a long growing season.
There are many sources for gourd seed and I don't actually know anything about the above source.

Wow, I have never heard of spoon gourds. I have grown a lot of gourds, so I will have to check that one out.
