Dead zones w/ travel

Is there any kind of solution when going over a pass to access cell signals? We travel from western Oregon to central Oregon routinely and for 1/2 of the 3+ hr drive we are out of touch. It is only a problem when I travel alone or our adult daughter. cb radio?
