WESTERN HUMMINGBIRDS VOL 1

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Glad to find this thread, got to reread it and go to the links. I have heard some hummers in my yard this year--not when I had a camera. I did stumble into this one feeding on a recent hike near Superior, AZ last week.

They are so fun to watch but difficult for me to catch an image of!

Hi cactus! That's a gorgeous shot!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Adel, yes, she looks like an Anna's to me too. There are other species that look similar, but I don't have them in this area and I don't think you do either.

Cactus, great series of photos on Flickr. I'll have to watch for your pictures on there too. You'll have to do what we all do and just keep practicing on the picture taking, it will get easier as you go. Warning-it is addicting!

Great job with the pics on Flicker cactus!

Thanks! And don't worry, I have been practicing for years and still keep on trying to get the "perfect" shot. I think patience is the key. ; )

This Anna's hummer sure was thirsty in the early morning.

Just had to pop in to say hello, and love all the photos and info here. We have ruby and blackchinned hummers here. I h ave about 10 feeders up year round. The hummers showed up this year about the end of February. We love watching them fly around to feed.
This is a picture of 3 blackchinned hummers in our mesquite tree. 2 females, and 1 male.

Wonderful pic Linda! Your so lucky to have 2 types of Hummingbirds.

Looking forward to more of your shots!

Thank you. We had one rufous fly through here a few years ago, but I have not seen him since. It was in late October, so I think he was just a straggler?
I love hummingbirds! I think I could watch them all day long!

I know how you feel. I doubt I'll be getting much done once the hummingbirds arrive. :-)

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Great shot Linda. I love it when I get a shot with several in it! Seems we only see the Rufous in Aug or Sept too here in NM.

I just drove through NM, and to Tucson and back. My Dad has an Aunt that lives there. She is 85 years old, so we went to visit her for the week-end! That was a long drive, and next time, it will be done over a longer period of time, not a week-end. Beautiful scenery all the way there and back!

Yes it is quite beautiful. We just drove the backroads from here to Phoenix, very nice scenery too.

Hi Everyone, Dirt has started a New Thread ; thanks for all the great pics in this one!

Here is a link for the NEW THREAD.

nice shot taters
I like New Mexico too.

The thread is getting long and from some prodding
onto page two:

For those that asked about the arbor-
There's a fella in Sherwood, OR that infrequently
makes these. It is from long one-inch square tubing
tack welded to concrete reinforcing panels and
it fits in a full size pickup truck bed (trying to give
some dimensions-- a couple of nice
designs on top and it is a light sturdy arbor that
will be used at another garden in the making.
The birds already own it-- hummers on top and
piles of sunflower shells in the path.
I also like the rusty patina.

HaHaHA LOL
It took me that long to figure out the linking to the new thread!
and the dog gone picture was too big I guess -- it blanked out on
trying to send.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That's a beauty arbour dirt. Thanks.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Love that arbor and the whole garden looks delightful. I am especially fond of rock edging--which is good since I live on a rock pile! Off to see the new thread.
