I've got a headache ^_^
If I bought 1.1 pounds of something for $11.55 and used 1/3 of an ounce of it, how much did that 1/3 of an ounce cost?
Any math whizzes out there?
roughly 65.625
I have NEVER gotten a word problem right --so take this with a grain of salt.
I just figured up how many oz you had and then did the division by the cost. 11.55 divided by 17.6 oz
but like I said -- take it with a grain of salt (or coffee as the case may be)
22 cents.
You did good, missingrosie - you got the right amount for one ounce, but then you needed to divide by 3.
Thanks!! I still have a headache from that one...
Well, I did not break my record of zero for word problems!!! HA!
Like the teachers always told me READ the problem ..read the problem..
That's what I keep telling my son!
hehehe...I could read the problem for half a day and the only thing I'd get is dizzy!
I'm so confused...I came up with 46 cents
16 oz per pound. 1.1 pound = 17.6 oz.
$11.55 divided by 17.6 oz = about 66 cents per ounce.
Therefore, the cost for 1/3 oz = 66 cents divided by 3 = 22 cents per ounce.
See I did get to the 66 cent/oz as Jayne kindly pointed out (I wish YOU were my 5th grade math teacher Jayne!) I just forgot to divide..... I neglected to go back to see what the question was asking. Go back over it flowerJ - you'll figure out what you did wrong.
Who is Jayne??
Jayne (look above in the list of posters) to this thread.
Oh - okay.^_^
oh hee hee I divided the ozs by the $
