Unknow yellow iris

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I had this beautiful clump of yellow irises blooming next to a drain pipe at the bottom of my property that stayed pretty wet especially in the spring. It was very prolific and would get very tall (3ft. or a wee bit taller). Sad story...my hub's did some dirtwork with his tractor down there and buried them. I was hoping some had survived and would come back up but they haven't in two years so I guess they got buried too deep. I'd like to get some more but they were from a trade many years ago just labeled irises so I do not know what to look for.

Anyone have any ideas what type this. They looked pretty much like the purple ones you see growing in wet ditches but yellow and much taller.

Might have been Iris pseudacorus. If so, your husband probably did the local wetlands a favor.

There are lots of named varieties of i. pseudacorus. And they are non invasive. And then there's the mix of i. pseudacorus and i. ensata called pseudatas, some of which look like the origional pseudacorus. So if you liked the way they looked, look for some of the named varieties.

Some examples:

King Clovis

And here's a nice pseudata with the look::
Kikoshi

None of these would be invasive.
