A friend sent me this photo to have identified.
Seems that it's native to Indiana and the fruits are almost chayote sized.

This looks just like a vine that grows wild EVERYWHERE in NW Florida - I have pulled miles of it off my trees and fences! I hope someone id's it.

Looks like Morrenia odorata - strangler vine, but to my knowledge it is only found in Florida and is hardy to zone 8B.
The seeds are sold as an annual, so maybe your friend found one that had been planted. This grows in Central Florida and is considered a weed.

I'm going to re-verify this is wild in Indiana. It's likely a summer to autumn photo; I bet the fruits would melt in zero temps. (freeze then turn to mush)
